Pursuing parallel explorations in Photography and Printmakingmy interest lies in trying to capture and record how we see and  record memory. 

There are no Kodak moments, but rather a syncopated   succession of moments that combine to recall or define an event. Much   of my work explores an image’s ability to fix a memory through the use   of multiple layers, paired images and overprinting multiple photos. 

Images, whole moments in time are combined to create a representation of an event that documents and expresses that event in a more complete and expressive manner than can be captured in a single instant.

Timelessness and curiosity are ongoing themes in my work. I explore visually the stories of what came before me, colored with nostalgia of an intriguing time past. I am moved by a sense of something greater than myself, spirituality, and a beauty in imperfection. My images speak of entropy, the reclaiming of spaces and structures by the forces of time and nature.

I fall under the spell of faded paintings on buildings, billboards, as well as period innovations like gas pumps and clocks. Discovering the unique, finding the extraordinary in the mundane, honoring the forgotten and recording the soon to change are the fuel of my journey.

I am fascinated with the emotional qualities of light and find myself drawn to the intensity, shape, direction, and color of light in addition to the subject it reveals. The metaphor is of the light within me. It has been lingering, waiting for the right moment to emerge. This emergence is spiritual, seeing light in the darkness and coming out of the darkness.
Photography is my vehicle for self-expression, for delving deeper into my ‘why’. As I listen more to my intuitive self while understanding more about the medium’s expressive qualities my vision becomes more uniquely my own.  Read More...

Felicia Touhey's  Two monotypes have been accepted into “Connectivity”, A National Juried Exhibition at the Attleboro Arts Museum, Attleboro, MA. June 15th-July 13th.

A Bit Of Color And Diversity 

Member Kendra Ferreira’s colored pencil drawing, "Out of the Blue", and member Paul Murray’s Cuban image, "La Historia Me Absolvera", shown below left to right, were two out of 77 works juried into the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts' 111th Annual Exhibition. With a reception and awards presentation on Saturday, July 16th, 5 - 7 PM, the exhibit is on display now thru August 20th at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts' Sill House Gallery at 84 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT.




 

Only The Best “Patriotic Apples” For Bristol’s 4th Of July

Member Kendra Ferreira’s colored pencil piece, “Patriotic Apples” won Best of Show in the Bristol Art Museum’s “Bristol 4th of July!” exhibit on display thru July 13th at the Rogers Free Library. Since 1785, Bristol, Rhode Island, has held the nation’s largest 4th of July celebration and parade which is a source of pride for the town, its residents, and the state.



 

 

First Place Prize At Boston’s Copley Society of Art

Member Paul Murray’s 12-metre yachting image, “A Crowded Start”, shown below, was awarded First Prize in the Copley Society of Art Summer Members Show: Horizons which ran thru July 2nd. The 36-work juried exhibition remains on view on their virtual gallery.

And Double Wins In Falmouth....

Paul's  Namibian image, "Watering with a Flair", and Antarctica image, "Antarctica Portal", shown below left to right, were awarded Best in Show and Honorable Mention, respectively, as two of 50 works in the Falmouth (MA) Art Center's 2022 Open Juried Photography Exhibition in May.


 

Some Tree Imagery At The Providence Art Club’s National Show


Members Ann-Marie Gillett’s “Strong/Tender” and Paul Murray’s “The Last Dance”, shown below left to right, were two of 46 works out of almost 600 entries juried into the Providence Art Club’s
2022 National Open Juried Exhibition which runs thru July 15th in the Club's Maxwell Mays Gallery located at 11 Thomas St., Providence, RI. Gallery hours are Sundays – Fridays, 12 - 4 PM, daily.


 

A Colorful Summertime At Pawtucket’s Gallery 175

Member Allie Sabalis, a watercolorist who reminds us of the colorfulness of those everyday things around us, joined with Cathy Chin, an acrylic painter who captures the colorful essence of the seaside, in a two-person show at Pawtucket’s Gallery 175 at 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI. Running thru August 25th, the show is on view 10 AM – 4 PM daily at no cost, and parking is available.

Allie's work is also part of  the "All Things Summer Show" at Spring Bull Gallery, Newport, R.I. The show runs from June 26th-August 26th. 

The Lilies Never Looked So Good!

Member Lorraine Bromley Brown’s subtle watercolor painting, “New Year Lilies”, was juried into the American Watercolor Society’s 2022 Associate Members Online Exhibition which runs thru August 20th as well as the 2022 National Watermedia Show on view thru July 16th at the Rhode Island Watercolor Society’s gallery at Slater Memorial Park, 831 Armistice Blvd., Pawtucket, RI. The gallery hours are Thursday – Friday, 10 AM – 4 PM, and Saturday, 10 AM – 3 PM.

 

Bouquets For A Hot Night In Worcester

Member  Ann-Marie Gillett’s “Bouquet #1”, “Bouquet #2”, and “Bouquet #3”, shown below left to right, were curated by the Juniper Rag editorial staff for the “Artists on Fire” exhibition at the Worcester Center for Crafts’ Krikorian Gallery for the upcoming “Hot Night in the City” Arts Celebration. Opening on July 22nd, 4 – 9 PM, the show runs thru August 6th at the gallery at 25 Sagamore Rd, Worcester, MA.

 

 

 

Reflections And Collaboration In Cuba

After a great showing in Camaguey, member Paul Murray’s solo exhibition, “Looking Back”, a pandemic reflection on new or less seen work from his worldwide photographic treks, and "Cuba in Parallel", a two-person view of Cuban life done in partnership with Camaguey-based photographer Adrian Juan Espinosa, were on display in June at Santiago de Cuba's Galeria del Centro Cultural Francisco Prat Puig.

 

 

 

 

Summer Is To Sailing, As Sailing Is To Photography…

That makes perfect sense to members David DeMelim and Paul Murray who collaborated at
The R.I. Center for Photographic Arts to focus on sailing photography with "Riding The Wind", Paul’s collection of 12-metre yacht racing photography, and “Voyages and Victories”, a curated view of many aspects of sailing from maritime photographers Daniel Forster and Rob Migliaccio. While both exhibits ended in June, they can be viewed in a 360-degree virtual tour.

This studio workshop will focus on creating your own drawings of exciting seascapes. Learn how to capture the atmosphere of smooth water, sea foam and waves.
We will cover the transparency and reflections in water as well as building form, light and shadow and working with surrounding beach and land formations.
 

More Sailing Please!

With Summer comes sailing, and members David DeMelim and Paul Murray are managing the Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts’ upcoming “Under Sail: Experiences, People, and Destinations​​”, an international photographic exhibit, slated to open mid-August. Maritime photographer Daniel Forster will join Paul in jurying the exhibition. Entries are due July 19th.

Based on the group’s size and composition, we invite artists to be members. After an informal discussion about interests and expectations, those invited are asked to share a representative set of their paper-based work, a resume highlighting their artistic experience, and any other material that could assist with the group’s membership decision. Since we value exchange, collaboration, and continuity, consistent participation in our monthly meetings and group activities is an important membership commitment.
