Welcome to 19 on Paper’s inaugural newsletter. We hope your Holiday Season has been a happy, healthy, and safe one in these challenging times.

Let us tell you a bit about who we are and what we do. Formed in 1986, 19 on Paper is a group of New England artists who create works of art of, on, or with paper which we exhibit as a group.

We are painters, collage artists, printmakers, book artists, photographers, digital artists, and sculptors. Often our works are solo creations although we do join collectively in thematic and collaborative creative efforts.

We strive to promote an appreciation of paper-based art through exhibitions, portfolios, sharing, networking, and professional growth among our members. Our commitment to paper is a significant element in the art of our group exhibitions.

Exhibiting our work as a group is our core activity. To date, we have had more than 50 group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout New England and abroad including a comprehensive 25th anniversary show at Rhode Island’s acclaimed Newport Art Museum and exhibitions in London, Moscow, and Japan.

New 19 on Paper Accordion-Fold Book

As our collaborative  project for 2020,  we created an accordion fold book made up of samples of members' work. It was an interesting and challenging way to work together on a single project. Our 2019 version can be seen on the 19 on Paper website.

“Fragments of Time” Opens at Boston’s Fountain Street Gallery

Member David DeMelim rolls into to 2021 with new work in a two-person exhibit, “Fragments of Time”, at the Fountain St. Gallery in Boston’s SoWa Art + Design district. Running thru January, his built panoramic images represent multiple moments in time to evoke the feeling of having been in an experience. For an interactive walkthrough, click here.

“Riding The Wind” in Cuba’s 2020 Noviembre Fotográfico and Virtual Gallery

Member Paul M. Murray's “Riding The Wind", a curated 34-image collection of his 12-metre yacht racing photography, was one of Cuba’s 2020 Noviembre Fotográfico opening exhibits and will tour Cuba in 2021. Available as well in a virtual gallery, the show focuses on the spirit, action, and intensity of competitions on Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay and offshore waters.

Do you like the art you see?

Great! As a group, we lease our art and sell our portfolios. We would be happy to talk with you about how we can provide high-quality art in your residential or corporate environment. Additionally, all our group activities complement and enhance the exhibiting, publishing, licensing and selling activities that we do as individual artists.

Are you interested in joining 19 on Paper?

Based on the group’s size and composition, we invite artists to be members. After an informal discussion about interests and expectations, those invited are asked to share a representative set of their paper-based work, a resume highlighting their artistic experience, and any other material that could assist with the group’s membership decision. Since we value exchange, collaboration, and continuity, consistent participation in our monthly meetings and group activities is an important membership commitment.
