“Simply put, my work is my personal interaction and interpretation with a person or thing; confluence. Confluence reaches past the surface of materials and technique used in the process of creating, it is the result of an inner journey one travels in an effort to convey a personal vision. The process of painting is much more than recording the obvious. My goal is to say as much as I can about my subject without saying it all so that it leaves the viewer to become an integral part of the painting.
In my compositions, I am aware of the formal aspects of design. Although a feeling or emotion toward a subject may be the impetus for my paintings it is the interaction between shapes and spatial relationships that emanate energy within the two-dimensional surface.
More than technique, it is how we interpret our own personal vision through our medium that elevates an ordinary subject into a work of art, one that resonates long after. I feel strongly in the versatility and flexibility of the medium and go to great lengths to push the medium in directions that may not be considered characteristic to traditional watercolor.”-Nancy Gaucher-Thomas

About the White Ladle Series:

“The series of five paintings began two years ago when I began the arduous task of arranging objects for a still life composition in what seemed a very mechanical manner. My eyes rested on the single white ladle. There was the challenge. The subtle nuances that are inherent when modeling form, limited palette, layered washes and building the surface. How would I begin to interpret this white ladle in all it’s simplicity. The white ladle became symbolic."
