My works are inspired by nature, especially the New England seascape. Its fullness of meaning enriches my life. I observe it intently. To capture its presence, the ocean's movement, the light on the returning waves, evokes a hypnotic reverence. Gazing into its tidal pools, revealed at low tide in crystal clear Maine waters and concealed by the deep waters of high tide, the ocean's rhythms express a continuity of life - of all living beings on the Earth.
My vision is drawn to the repetitive rhythms of Earth's life cycles. I love to paint "en plein air", and await with anticipation the return of the salmon-colored poppies, perfectly timed, in the first week of June, and continue to paint through the lazy buzz of the late summer insects and the gentle breeze that raises the swell, setting the moored pleasure crafts to bobbing, and through the Autumn sun's last kiss on the mum's faces.
My desire is to convey in my works a sense of place, and a meditative, quiet, but intense mood,
- a mood that I wish to share with you. Sally Caswell |
