Brooke Hammerle

The subject of my work is centered within the visual world of the landscape, particularly the landscape with water, and the balance between nature and abstraction that I find there. Although I visualize my images through the camera lens, my former background as a painter prevails in my search for the formal elements and the interplay between spatial ambiguities of surface and reflection.  The image becomes a matrix for the interpretation of color relationships, a synthesis of what I see through the lens, and the organizing of form and color for its own sake. Through the printing process these color relationships, the image becomes iconic and the subtlety of shapes and patterns float in a rhythm of their own space and time.
